In 1999, Academy Award winning visual effects studio Industrial Light & Magic was in quite a bind. They were busy finishing up the effects for the eagerly anticipated film Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace.  Director and Star Wars creator George Lucas had mandated that the fictional planet of Naboo, the site of a climactic ground battle, needed to look perfect and pristine. He insisted Naboo should have rolling green hills and beautiful puffy white clouds.  The problem was that with so many backgrounds needing to be created ILMs digital matte painting department quickly burned through their entire stock library of cloud photos. They tried their best to reuse and augment the clouds images they had, but everything was starting to look the same. Veronica Louds husband, VFX artist C. Andrew Nelson, was working as a matte painter on the ground battle. He told her of the situation...and she saved the day!
